What is Yoga?

Yoga is not just about the body but how the body, the mind and the emotions work together with the breath to reach the soul. This union connects the soul with the goddess, or to nature, or to the creative, cosmic energy, or however one defines their spiritual beliefs.

Ashtanga Yoga or the eight limbs of yoga is based on Patanjali’s classical work, the Yoga Sutras written in 200 BC. The Yoga Sutras are composed of 185 aphorisms, which teach, stich by stich, how to still ourselves from the fluctuations of the mind. Yoga can lessen, sorrow, pain, anxiety, and physical stress and create serenity through a deeper connection with what really matters.

Certified Iyengar Teachers
Certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers are trained in anatomy, physiology, and therapeutics, and can individualize poses to each person’s physical needs. Deep understanding of the yoga postures, allows teachers to instruct appropriately to the group in front of them, whether they are younger, older, athletic, or have physical limitations. Only after many years of practice, study and training do teachers become certified instructors. The system of continuing education for certified Iyengar instructors is rigorous and mandatory similar to what is required in other health professions. Look for the mark.
